What better place could there be to gaze at the sea than float pools that are cantilevered over the open ocean? This feat is one of the highlights of our redesigned Rooftop Garden, which now extends right over the water’s edge. The living urban playscape that debuted on our Edge® Series has turned over a whole new leaf on Celebrity Beyond, thanks to the vision of world-renowned designer Kelly Hoppen, CBE, and architect Tom Wright, of WKK. Edge Accessible Staterooms are designed with wider doors, roll-in showers, grab bars, and other special features for guests with mobility issues and other disabilities.

Below, the mixologists, with astonishing skill, juggle cocktail shakers and bottles, and even balance martini glasses (full) on their heads, as a thrilling taste of the night’s excitement to come. French sculptor Fabien Merelle’s L’origine is a life-sized white elephant balanced on a man’s back, perches at one end of the pool. You’ll emerge into a space that’s flooded with light and filled with tropical plants, creating the feeling of a jungly conservatory.

Fine Cut steakhouse no longer has an outdoor area; instead the specialty restaurant has more seating, including in "wine barrels" that overlook the Grand Plaza action, as well as supersized window seats for romantic sea views at dinner. "The Club" is another new (dual-purpose) venue with a large dance floor, a stage for live performances, a giant LED screen, and served by its own 2 bars. During the day, The Club offers fun activities and games (including Funovation Laser Maze Challenge, Drone Hunting, laser obstacle course, dance classes, trivia). At night, it transforms into "The Jazz Joint at The Club" (live performances by vocalists, dancers, comedians) and later into the disco nightclub "Undercover at The Club".
Debuting first on Edge and back again on Beyond, the Magic Carpet is a tennis-court sized platform nestled against the side of the ship, literally floating above the ocean. How often can you dine in a restaurant by one of the world’s most famous chefs without having to book months in advance? Le Voyage is Chef Daniel Boulud’s first signature restaurant at sea, inspired by the chef’s love of ethnic ingredients and his travels around the world—and it is exquisite. Where conditions permit, for example, when the ship is in Santorini for sunset, the venue hosts Dinner on the Edge, in the most romantic setting imaginable, right at the top of the ship with uninterrupted sea views. On Deck Five, it serves as an al-fresco extension to the superb Raw on 5 seafood restaurant, while on Deck 14, it becomes a lounge adjacent to the pool. You’ll be able to enjoy the healthy menus and clean cuisine of Blu, a restaurant exclusive to AquaClass guests. The joy of being on a cruise ship is that everything is close by, nobody has to drive (apart from the captain), and your kids are safe.

There were very few children on the ship, and myself and my husband (both 35) were one of the few “younger” couples onboard. Seating areas are configured differently in these staterooms, to allow for large, glass sliding patio doors to take up the cabin’s far wall, so you can enjoy views both inside and outside your cabin. Ship's Kids Club offers by the "Camp at Sea" program over 500 complimentary activities for children of all ages. The facility features two (new for the fleet) separate spaces (for kids and teens) called "The Basement". The 3-deck-high Grand Plaza (open-floor designed midship area) is larger which allowed the Martini Bar to be moved to the venue's center (on Lobby level/deck 2) as a full-circle bar.

I was lucky enough to be on the inaugural voyage of Beyond, which included a 10-night Western Europe sail visiting Bordeaux, France; Lisbon, Portugal; Bilbao, Seville, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, and Barcelona, Spain. While a majority of these destinations are relatively easy to get to sans-ship, they’re all topnotch cities and worth exploring no matter how you get there.
